MANILA, Philippines—Phoenix will be entering the PBA’s 50th season with a new coach in Willy Wilson.
Wilson, who’s been a part of the Fuel Masters’ coaching staff for over five years, officially took the coaching reins on Friday afternoon.

“Management believes that coach Willy will be a good fit for the team as it continues to pursue more success in Season 50,” wrote the team in a statement.
“His experience both as a PBA player and coach will be an instrumental tool as he steers the best out of the Fuelmasters in the coming season.”
Wilson, an assistant coach for Phoenix since 2020, will be handling a young core that underachieved the past season.
In the recently concluded Philippine Cup, the Fuel Masters missed the playoffs after only tallying a 4-7 record.

Overall, Phoenix only won eight out of 25 games.
Wilson replaced Jamike Jarin was assigned as team consultant.
Among the first order of business for Wilson is the upcoming PBA Draft.
The Fuel Masters took former Ateneo standout Kai Ballungay with the fourth overall pick in last year’s draft.
