MANILA, Philippines—Not even athletes were spared from the heavy rains brought about by the southwest monsoon.
On Monday night, the players of PLDT High Speed Hitters were stranded after practice and had to be rescued from their practice gym in Quezon City due to severe flooding.
The Philippine Coast Guard and Army quickly responded, rescuing the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) squad from the rising floodwaters along G. Araneta Avenue.

PLDT standout Mika Reyes and Majoy Baron documented the team’s ordeal and relief on their Instagram accounts.
“Stranded for hours but rescuers still came, sumugod sa baha at walang pagod tumulong,” wrote Baron in an Instagram story.
“I can only imagine what others went through in even more unstable places. Sana lahat ng nangangailangan, naabot ng tulong. Forever grateful to those who checked in, brought food and most of all, to Philippine Army S&R and Raha Rescue!”
“Saludo to the ones who braved the floods to get to us,” Reyes also said.
Reyes, Baron and her teammates were eventually brought home safely.
