Dave Bautista Gets an Offer to Appear in Road House 2
Dave Bautista is said to be considering a role in director Guy Ritchie‘s upcoming sequel for Amazon MGM, Road House 2.
Dave Bautista has come off two recently acclaimed performances in the films, Knock at the Cabin and The Last Showgirl. Now, the actor is said to be a potential cast member for the forthcoming Amazon MGM Jake Gyllenhaal starrer, Road House 2. In the past, Bautista has been an important part of popular franchises such as the recent Dune films and the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. It’s not clear yet as to what the performer’s exact role would be in Road House 2, but the first film that featured Gyllenhaal in the lead role (as a bouncer who has to fight inhabitants of a small town) was a streaming hit and one of Amazon Prime’s most watched pictures to date.
That “first” recent Road House movie was actually a remake of a late 1980’s Patrick Swayze action yarn. This remake was directed by Doug Liman who expressed disappointment that his film went straight to streaming instead of experiencing a well-deserved theatrical release. Guy Ritchie will be taking over directorial duties from Liman for the upcoming sequel which Bautista may be a part of. Ritchie knows action sequences like the back of his hand, so expect this series to thrive in the filmmaker’s capable hands.
Bautista hasn’t been taking it easy in-between roles these days. He has a couple of upcoming films slated to release, including Trap House, a movie about a drug cartel, and a comedy called Wrecking Crew where Bautista will play opposite A Minecraft Movie star, Jason Momoa.
While Bautista’s acclaimed performances in Knock at the Cabin and The Last Showgirl were received considerably well, both films tanked at the box-office suggesting the actor may not yet be ready to carry a film on his name alone. True, Pamela Anderson was really the lead in The Last Showgirl, but Bautista played an important secondary role in the picture. Bautista was sort of fully responsible for the recent flops, In the Lost Lands and The Killer’s Game. In both of those films, Bautista played big central roles although those movies weren’t exactly marketed correctly either. I actually enjoyed The Killer’s Game a lot more than others.
Road House, the recent Jake Gyllenhaal remake, was a lot of fun to watch and lived up to the expectations set by the old Patrick Swayze movie for most viewers. It was action-packed and just the type of film in which Bautista would fit right in. Look for more news on the sequel to Road House and the finalized casting of Bautista in it as the story develops.
