Inspection Triggered by Activist Complaint, Allegations of Irregularities
Bollywood’s most iconic residence, Shah Rukh Khan’s sea-facing bungalow Mannat in Bandra, entered the media and public discourse after allegations of unapproved renovation came to light. The complaint led by activist Santosh Daundkar resulted in an inspection earlier in the week from teams of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the forest department.
The inspection surrounded the ongoing renovation of the modern multi‑storey annexe built next to the heritage structure Villa Vienna, which now makes up the landmark actor’s residence. Shah Rukh Khan and his family have temporarily relocated to a large four‑storey apartment in Puja Casa, Pali Hill, that is owned by filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani while the restoration and renovations take place.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Manager Speaks: “No Complaints, All According Guidelines”
In response to media reports and viral speculation around the allegations, Pooja Dadlani, long‑entrenched manager of Shah Rukh Khan, issued an emphatic statement to disavow the allegations. “No complaints. All works are as per guidelines,” she said.
During its visit to the site, SRK’s in‑house staff reassured BMC and forest department officials that all permits and compliance documents were in order and would be provided as required. A forest department officer confirmed the visit, commenting the visit was routine and conducted following procedure after having received a formal complaint.
YP Singh Raises Legal Challenges on Past Construction
To complicate matters, former IPS officer YP Singh added gravity to the complaint, contending that the construction of the annexe to Mannat in 2005 was done using a backdoor process allegedly circumventing the Urban Land Ceiling Act. According to Singh, the original permissions on the plot were for twelve flats, which were merged together, creating a multi‑million‑dollar residence for Shah Rukh Khan and interior designer Gauri Khan.
Singh has accused municipal officials of collusion and has called for the structure to revert to its original plan. However, no official notice or stay has been issued against the renovation work currently taking place.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat has long been more than just a home—it is a symbol of celebrity, dreams, and the history of cinema. The ongoing spate of allegations of wrongdoing may generate headlines, but Shah Rukh Khan and his team continue to remain calm, collegial, and compliant. There are still no legal notices served, and press statements confirm compliance with all protocol and guidelines. This backlash may soon blow over, leaving only a freshly renovated Mannat, destined to be even more prominent on the skyline of Bandstand.
