As per recent reports, the much-anticipated biopic produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and directed by Laxman Utekar will see Shraddha Kapoor step into the shoes of the legendary Tamasha and Lavani performer Vithabai Narayangaonkar.
Here Box Office Worldwide brings you Exclusive update on same.
Shraddha Kapoor To Play Legendary Title Role Vittha
While the film had been circulating with the working title Tamasha, we have now exclusively learnt that the confirmed title is Vittha, a detail not revealed anywhere else.
A source elaborated, “Vithabai Narayangaonkar, popularly hailed as the ‘Tamasha Queen,’ remains an iconic figure in Maharashtra’s folk theatre tradition. Known for her unparalleled grace, powerful performances, and mastery of Lavani, she transcended rural stages to leave an indelible mark on Marathi culture.”
Bringing a Legendary Lavani Performer to Life
Source further added, “Despite battling personal and financial hardships, Vithabai’s artistry ensured her legacy lived on for generations, making her story ripe for cinematic exploration. The filmmakers have already secured life rights from her family in Pune, underscoring their commitment to authenticity in portraying her remarkable journey.”
Vittha: A Creative Reunion Rooted in Cultural Storytelling
This project reunites Dinesh Vijan and Laxman Utekar, the duo behind acclaimed films like Mimi (2021) and this year’s epic Chhaava (2025). Both projects showcased their flair for blending emotional storytelling with culturally rooted themes. For Shraddha Kapoor, Vittha marks a return to content-driven cinema after headlining mainstream entertainers, positioning her in a role that demands both artistic depth and cultural sensitivity.
Although casting details remain under wraps, industry chatter suggests that a prominent male actor could soon be attached to the film. There will also be younger actor who will be paired opposite Shraddha.
Discussions around supporting roles and music are still in progress, but insiders indicate this may become one of Maddock Films’ most ambitious cultural biopics to date.
Vittha is not just a star-driven biopic. It represents Bollywood’s growing engagement with regional art forms and offers overdue recognition to women who transformed the landscape of Indian folk theatre. By spotlighting Vithabai’s journey, the film has the potential to bridge the gap between mass audiences and folk traditions while giving Shraddha Kapoor one of the most challenging and rewarding roles of her career. If current plans hold, production could roll out within the next few months.
