Stephen King has managed to upset both Republicans and Democrats with his hot take on the Epstein list.

The recent declaration from the DoJ stating that Epstein never had a list has united Republicans and Democrats alike as many call out what they believe to be a conspiracy to shelter collaborators (including Donald Trump). But despite being vehemently anti-Trump horror author Stephen King has actually voiced his agreement with the president in this instance.

Everybody has their own hot takes when it comes to the Epstein files, some may be more controversial than others. Well King’s opinion has certainly taken many by surprise, particularly when it seems like perfect ammunition to use against Trump. The author took to X on Tuesday to share his thoughts on its existence, sarcastically telling his followers that it’s about as real as “the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus.”

The response online

King is no doubt used to dealing with trolls in the responses to his posts, after all, he’s spent years dealing with MAGA supporters sending him hate via X. But this time it seems his opinion has seen some of his more liberal supporters join the chorus of MAGA trolls too.

Many jumped to the wild conclusion that King was denying the existence of the list because he was on it. One person sarcastically wrote “You might as well tweeted out “My name is on the Epstein list and I don’t want anyone to see it”.” Of course, there’s no evidence whatsoever that King has a connection to Jeffrey Epstein, but his stance on the supposed list has already raised eyebrows.

Another person asked the author, “why would you post this, what did you possibly hope to gain from this take[?]” A third suggested that Trump had called him referencing the rumor that the president had called influencers to change the rhetoric surrounding Epstein.

It does seem like a rather unexpected stance from someone like King, a man who usually never fails to point out Trump’s many shortcomings as president. To agree with him on a topic that has united both Republican and Democrat voters against the country’s leader seems counterintuitive.

Stephen King doubles down

Never one to back down from his opinions, King only dug himself deeper with the angry online mob, following up his post with another where he claimed that “The  “list”  is  like  UFOs:  Everyone  knows  someone  who’s  seen  one.”

While Trump supporters taunted King, claiming “it will be released and will show all dems are there.” Other, less extreme voices, simply voiced their disappointment in the author. One person wrote, “Rare L from Mr. King.” Another added, “We’re just a little confused on why you’re siding with Trump on this issue after a decade of being his biggest critic.”

Whatever his reasoning, it seems King is in the minority here. The ever-changing narrative surrounding the existence of these files coupled with the rush to bury any news on the subject has led many to suspect Trump and his administration are hiding something. Hearing King agree with Trump while MAGA calls them both out makes it feel like we’ve fallen into some weird bizarro reality.
