James Gunn is back — and now he’s taking the Man of Steel to stratospheric new highs. With weeks until the theatrical debut, Gunn’s Superman is already rewriting the playbook by managing to become the highest pre-sale ticket seller of 2025 shortly, beating out Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
A new chapter for the DC Universe, and if the numbers are any indication, fans are more than ready to believe in heroes again.
Superman Tops Fantastic Four in Fandango Advance Bookings
According to Fandango, Superman has taken the No. 1 spot in pre-sales for opening day, beating out The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which was the earlier record holder. Partially attributed to the increased demand, the presales were kicked off with exclusive early access screenings for Amazon Prime Video members on June 8, for their nationwide release of July 11, 2025.
The excitement demonstrates not only Superman’s awesome brand identity, but it also shows growing anticipation from fans surrounding James Gunn’s DC Universe.
The excitement is indicative of not just the “Superman” brand power but also the rising excitement with James Gunn‘s new DC Universe.
Star-Studded Cast And Expectations
David Corenswet wears the cape as Clark Kent (Superman), while Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of nemesis Lex Luthor — who was voted the second most anticipated performance of the year in 2025 according to Fandango’s 2025 movie fan survey.
The impressive cast consists of:
-
Anthony Carrigan
-
Edi Gathegi
-
Nathan Fillion
-
Isabela Merced
This is the first movie that has been made completely by DC Studios, with the creative direction and screenplay by Gunn, which fans hope brings wholeness to the film that was lacking in the DCEU.
Box Office Expectations: A USD 250M+ Global Opening
Insider trade chatter suggests the projection for Superman is a box office of USD 250M–300M globally, with a projected domestic box office take of USD 100M–120M.
If the film meets expectations, it could potentially be a competitor or surpass the current superhero movie lead of 2025 – Captain America: Brave New World, which had an opening of USD 88.8 million. As of now, the strongest domestic opening of 2023 is still held by The Minecraft Movie, which had a USD 163 million opening day.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
James Gunn’s Superman is more than a superhero reboot — it’s a statement. With Fandango pre-sales already in record territory and Amazon Prime’s early access screenings adding extra excitement, the new film is soaring into theatres with the strongest tailwinds any DC project has seen in years.
Whether it dethrones The Minecraft Movie‘s crown or not — one thing is for sure — Superman is primed to leap tall box office expectations in a single bound.
