The Boy Wonder Won’t Be in The Batman: Part II
James Gunn has denied and shot down rumors that Robin, the Boy Wonder, will be a character in the upcoming 2027 release, The Batman: Part II.
James Gunn has stated that only about a half dozen people have read the script for The Batman: Part II and nobody knows if Robin will be in it contrary to rumors that had circulated stating that Robin would be in it. Robin’s presence in the 1997 film, Batman & Robin, didn’t help ticket sales for that dud in which Chris O’Donnell (Scent of a Woman) played the Boy Wonder.
Matt Reeves’ upcoming sequel, set to be released in 2027, will be a long-awaited comic book character-based movie that audiences have been looking forward to since 2022 when the first The Batman picture was released. James Gunn doesn’t want people to believe (false) rumors regarding Robin’s presence in the picture being that only a few people even know what’s going on regarding the sequel and they are not sharing much (or any) of the recently completed script’s contents that are in store for the 2027 release. Reeves is directing the sequel and that’s probably the only fact we really know about what’s going on behind the scenes with this particular project.
A new take on “Robin” has become something of a false promise of sorts in The Batman/The Dark Knight universe. In The Dark Knight Rises, audiences were hoping to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt become “Robin” in future films in the DC series. However, things didn’t go as expected and the Gordon-Levitt Robin never really materialized in future films. Also, let it be known that the DC Universe departed The Batman/The Dark Knight characters for a while back then in favor of movies like Suicide Squad from 2016. Even Suicide Squad was rebooted as The Suicide Squad in 2021 due to disappointing fan and critics’ reactions to that Will Smith starrer.
The Batman: Part II looks to be shooting this spring en route to an October 2027 release. As the film begins to start filming, we’ll see if we can figure out if the “Boy Wonder” has any chance at being a part of it. According to James Gunn’s response to the rumor of Robin’s presence in the project, the best advice would be to not believe any sort of speculations on the web at this present time.
Gunn may have a trick up his sleeve, but by making his recent statement, it is highly unlikely we’ll be seeing the Boy Wonder on the big screen anytime soon. Chris O’Donnell’s turn as Robin in 1997 proved to be in one of the lowest grossing superhero movies featuring Batman of all-time. Gunn is probably definitely looking for Reeves’ new project to avoid that unfortunate fate.
