Oscar Winner Mikey Madison To Play Twin Sisters
Academy Award winning actress Mikey Madison is slated to appear in A24‘s Edgar Allan Poe adaptation, The Masque of the Red Death.
Oscar winner for the 2024 best picture, Anora, Mikey Madison, is set to star as twin sisters in The Masque of the Red Death which is one of her two booked movies that she will be taking on after winning the Academy Award. Her other new role will be opposite Kirsten Dunst (Civil War) in a picture titled Reptilia which will be a tense thriller about a dental hygienist and a mermaid. A24, the studio behind Dunst’s recent hit, Civil War, will be backing The Masque of the Red Death which will be directed by Charlie Polinger (The Plague).
Mikey Madison isn’t the first high-profile leading actress to be attached to the creepy Edgar Allan Poe-inspired upcoming film, The Masque of the Red Death. Sydney Sweeney had the role first, but backed out of the project due to “scheduling issues.” Sweeney starred in the recent 2024 horror film, Immaculate, which was proof that the star could certainly handle the intense acting required by the story showcased in The Masque of the Red Death. Sweeney also proved she could handle roles in light romantic comedies with her funny turn in the surprising box-office hit, Anyone But You.
Madison also isn’t the first star to leap into a dual role (such as the one she’ll be playing in Polinger’s movie) after appearing in an Oscar-winning (for Best Picture) movie. Leonardo DiCaprio was featured in a dual role in 1998’s The Man in the Iron Mask right after Titanic won the Oscar for Best Picture. Of course, DiCaprio, himself, didn’t get nominated nor win for his acting work in Titanic. Madison’s risque role(s) in The Masque of the Red Death will also most likely be a lot more challenging than DiCaprio’s follow-up role(s) were.
The Masque of the Red Death will most likely start shooting sometime late this year or early next year sources say. Mikey Madison had the opportunity to play the central female villain in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, but passed on the project for financial reasons and the role ended up going to Mia Goth. We’ll see if the castle-centered Poe adaptation, The Masque of the Red Death, will “wow” Madison’s Anora fans when the film is eventually released. As of now, no potential release date has been revealed. Look for more news on this upcoming A24 movie as it is made available. In the meantime, catch Madison’s Best Actress-winning leading turn in Anora if you haven’t seen it yet.
