MANILA, Philippines—As soon as Geo Chiu got the microphone after being selected as the first overall pick in this year’s PBA Rookie Draft, he made his intentions loud and clear.
When the 6-foot-10 big man’s name was called, he was beaming from ear to ear.

But he wasn’t exactly relaxed. He has a mission already in mind and he wants it to be done in his rookie year.
“I just try to do whatever they ask me to do so hopefully I’ll be able to help the team get some wins and have a great season,” said Chiu, the top selection among the 122 aspirants.
Chiu’s name has already made the rounds even before this year’s official Draft.
Despite not being able to play during the two-day Draft Combine due to coughs and colds, Dyip still had their eyes set on Chiu–simply for his size, stature and experience.
Aside from winning a UAAP championship with Ateneo during his collegiate years, he also campaigned overseas.

Even before he suited up for the Ehime Orange Vikings in the Japan B.League, he also had some time playing in Taiwan for the Mustangs.
Chiu will boost Terrafirma’s young core, which consists of fellow big man Louie Sangalang, Mark Nonoy and Brent Paraiso.
Juan Gomez de Liaño was chosen second by Converge while Dalph Panopio, a former Gilas Pilipinas Youth mainstay, rounded out this year’s Top 3 after being chosen by Blackwater.
