Will Ferrell To Team with Ryan Gosling
Will Ferrell will be starring in an action/comedy from Amazon MGM titled Tough Guys where he will play opposite Ryan Gosling.
Funnyman Will Ferrell will be back on-screen again in a new film called Tough Guys. Ferrell is coming off one of his most successful recent efforts, You’re Cordially Invited, a movie in which Ferrell played the love interest of Reese Witherspoon who starred in the film.
There was a 1986 movie with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas called Tough Guys, but this new film appears to be a fresh project with no direct relation to the earlier 1986 picture. Ferrell will be starring with Ryan Gosling, and, in the new movie, the pair will play henchmen who want to escape their criminal underworld past in order to have better lives for themselves.
Ferrell played with another Ryan, Ryan Reynolds, in the great Christmas comedy, Spirited, a few years back and it is almost certain that Gosling and Ferrell will be the next comedy movie dream team. Gosling has quite a slate of upcoming movies from Project Hail Mary to the next Star Wars picture. He’s one of Hollywood’s most prized assets and when he plays against Ferrell, all bets are off as to who will get the most laughs out of the two.
Although Tough Guys is also an action movie, one can imagine that it will have moments of bonding between the lead characters that could be improvised at times and, most importantly, laugh-out-loud funny. Performance-wise, Gosling is known best for his dramatic work in the Oscar-winning movie La La Land. In the mainstream movie world, he played Ken in Barbie which was a huge financial success. Goslling can go between obscure projects like Half Nelson and big blockbusters like Barbie with tremendous ease.
Ferrell has had quite a career with his crowning achievement being his role in Elf where he starred with Zooey Deschanel and the recently deceased Bob Newhart (RIP). Ferrell has made a career out of silver screen pairings such as films like The Other Guys in which he appeared with Mark Wahlberg and Step Brothers where he played with John C. Reilly. Ferrell was also solid when he starred opposite Wahlberg (again) in the funny Daddy’s Home pictures.
Tough Guys is sure to be the type of movie where former bad guys try to redeem themselves through cleaning up their lives and making serious changes for the better. Can Ferrell and Gosling bring enough humor to the table in Tough Guys to get audiences excited about this new project? The answer should be a resounding “yes,” judging from the stars’ previous topflight projects. Gosling may also be co-producing the new movie.
