It’s no understatement to say that Triptii Dimri’s rise from breakthrough roles in Bulbbul and Qala, to her acclaim in Animal, has been defined by characters grounded in emotional depth. Now, as the spotlight shifts to her upcoming film Dhadak 2, she reveals how embodying Vidhi has been more than an artistic endeavour. It became a deeply personal journey of finding her voice.
Playing Vidhi: a character that empowered me
Triptii Dimri opened up recently about what drew her most strongly to Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal: “For me, she is Vidhi. She is not afraid to speak her truth. There is so much to learn from her because she makes you feel empowered”.
The role resonated deeply with Dimri’s own life. “I have been an introvert. I’ve seen and faced things, and not raised my voice against them.” She added, “For 30 years of my life, I have kept quiet about so many things. I never had the guts to tell people that it’s wrong. I told Shazia that I want to be like Vidhi; that by the end of this film, I should have the courage to speak my truth without being scared of anyone or the outcome. Now, I do stand up for the right things. This film made me open up a lot more.”
Triptii Dimri on industry realities and future plans
Dimri, who comes from a non-film background, spoke candidly about the fragility of success in Bollywood. Outsiders are rarely given second chances. “If you go wrong twice with your films, you are gone,” she said, explaining why she chooses roles based on their depth, not just commercial value.
Besides Dhadak 2, her upcoming lineup includes Vishal Bhardwaj’s next with Shahid Kapoor and Spirit with Prabhas, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Both projects highlight her growing clout in the industry.
Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dimri’s chemistry
On set, Triptii and Siddhant built a strong bond. She even joked about missing out on action scenes, saying she wished she got to beat him up off-camera. She also praised his work in Dhadak 2, calling it his best performance yet, adding another layer of anticipation to the film.
As Dhadak 2 nears its theatrical release, Triptii Dimri’s personal growth and her honest reflection mirror the film’s core themes. Vidhi’s journey of courage and truth has clearly left a lasting mark on the actress portraying her.
About Dhadak 2
A spiritual sequel to the 2018 Dhadak and a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, Dhadak 2 is produced by Dharma Productions in collaboration with Zee Studios and Cloud 9 Pictures. The romantic drama explores caste-based prejudice through the love story of Vidhi (Dimri) and Nilesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), confronting societal barriers with realism and sensitivity. After delays and CBFC review rounds, the film is now set to release in cinemas on 1 August 2025.
