MANILA, Philippines—University of the Philippines bowed out of contention in the World University Basketball Series (WUBS) Saturday night.
The Fighting Maroons succumbed to Korea University, 75-71, at Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan, ending their bid for a title.

Down big early, UP came back and even knotted the game at 65 with 1:33 remaining.
The Korean side, however, got its bearings back just in time, outscoring the Maroons, 10-6, to finish the game.
Terrence Fortea paced UP in scoring with 14 points while Gani Stevens turned in a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Francis Nnoruka also tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Moon Yu-Hyeon showed the way for Korea University with 23 points built on five triples. Donggeun Lee and Minsoo Yoo added 15 and 13 points, respectively.
UP’s loss failed to follow up defending champion La Salle’s opening victory over Chinese Taipei’s National Chengchi University (NCCU), 89-84, earlier in the day.
The Fighting Maroons will face University of Sydney in the classification round.
