White House twists Charli Kirk’s death, fueling fears for Planned Parenthood – We Got This Covered

The top staffers in the Donald Trump administration claimed that Charlie Kirk’s murder was the result of an evil campaign by the radical left. And now, with evidence coming out to the contrary of that premature claim, they’re still doubling down by using the murder as a justification to target what they’re calling “radical left organizations.”

When Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller — famous for his threat of suspending habeas corpus — appeared on Fox News for an interview, it was already clear that he was about to turn the Kirk murder into the most blatant push for whichever specific agenda that the Trump administration is trying to advance right now.

Miller claimed that, coincidentally, just before Kirk died he sent him a message urging the Trump administration to dismantle “radical left organizations.” Miller left the specifics of his alleged conversation vague. Of course, the fact that there’s simply no way of confirming the validity of these claims only made the statement seem more outrageous. And even if we were to go beyond Kirk’s supposed final wishes of defunding certain institutions, there’s still the concern that Miller has the privilege of sitting as an advisor to Trump to personally determine whether a specific organization is “radically left” or not. But does any of that tie into the Kirk murder at all?

The one glaring omission in Miller’s interview appearance is whether this tragedy made the administration reconsider its approach to gun laws. If this murder should inspire anything, then perhaps it should be that. Or at least spark the conversation. Because as things stand, the assumption that Kirk’s suspected killer was a Democrat is slowly being debunked. And what if he was actually conservative? That should not mean there’s nothing to learn from this situation for the MAGA faithful.

As for what these “radically left organizations” could be, there are no confirmations. But a recent ruling has given the Trump administration the green light to defund Planned Parenthood. While MAGA only paints the institution with broad strokes that focus on its pro-choice stance, it actually provides a wide variety of services.

The Guardian reports that Trump has gotten a favorable ruling from the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals regarding his case to block Planned Parenthood from receiving reimbursements from Medicaid. The idea was first conceptualized in Trump’s megabill. Now, the Trump administration may cause the closure of 200 Planned Parenthood institutions across the country.

Alexis McGill Johnson, chief executive of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, informed the press what exactly was at risk, saying, “Cancers will go undetected, STIs will go untreated, and patients won’t get the birth control that they need to plan their families and futures. Patients will have to travel further to get care and wait longer to get it as demand surges at health centers.”

We’ll have to wait and see whether Trump actually follows through on “defunding” Planned Parenthood. But it would be even more sinister to use the murder of Kirk to justify it. If Democrats were to push back on this issue — and even start a public conversation about gun laws — the overwhelming response would be the familiar line: “You’re politicizing his death.” Now the ball is in the court of the GOP; they have the choice of how to commemorate one of their most influential figures. Yet, here we still are — politicizing it.
