How could they even mess up this badly?

Engagement rings often require a lot of thought and effort on the part of the buyer. Does it represent their partner? will they still want to wear it on their hand years down the line? All important questions that make such a purchase a big deal.

With all that to consider, an engagement ring can quickly become an item of sentimental significance, especially after the proposal, so to lose it could be heartbreaking. However, it could be worse, the jewellers you bought it from could make a monumental mistake and accidentally sell it on to another couple after you’ve already proposed with it.

A couple on TikTok are currently trying to get their engagement ring back after sending it to the jewellers to have it refitted only to be sent back a different ring which very clearly wasn’t the same one they bought. Upon further investigation it soon became apparent that the jewellers had accidentally sold their original ring to another customer and was trying to cover their tracks.

What happened?

Josey Donachie and her fiancé, Andrew, purchased a sapphire ring from The Diamond Store, an online jewellers based in London. After using the engagement ring to propose, they then sent it back to be refitted, as people often do. However, the couple soon realized that may have been a mistake as they were sent an email telling them that the store no longer has the stock to process the exchange.

After being assured that it was an automated email sent in error, Josey and Andrew were sent back their engagement ring. There was just one problem, it wasn’t their ring.

In the video Josey explains the differences that alerted the couple to the fact the store were apparently trying to pull a fast one. There wasn’t much to be done however, as the store had sold the ring and offered another replacement along with a £60.00 refund.

Of course, the original ring holds sentimental value as it was the one that was actually used in the proposal, obviously Josey and Andrew would want the one they purchased back but unfortunately it seems like it may be lost for good as another couple has apparently bought it and the store claims they can’t track purchases.

Viewers recommended Josey take legal action against the store, one person simply wrote, “Lawyer time!” While another asked, “Can you sue them[?]” A third expressed frustration on Josey’s behalf, “sorry but “we don’t have your ring anymore HERE’S £60”?! I would be LIVID.”

What now?

So what options are the couple left with? The answer is not a lot unfortunately. Josey posted her video back in August with the hopes that whoever bought it might not have used it to propose yet and they might see the video and return it.

However, in a surprise twist, Josey confirmed in an update video that The Diamond Store had reached out and confirmed that they actually hadn’t sold her ring and that it would be refitted and sent back along with £190 in compensation. In another video from this month she informed viewers that the store was not happy with the quality of the refit, giving the couple the option to get the stones fitted on a new ring so it keeps the sentimental value which she ultimately decided to do.
