Boca Raton Council member Yvette Drucker wants to continue serving in office closer to home. She’s dropping her Senate bid to instead run for Palm Beach County Clerk of Circuit Court and Comptroller.
“I’ve dedicated my career to public service, building coalitions, managing budgets, and helping working families across Palm Beach County. I am proud of my reputation for common sense approaches to major issues, managing relationships across the political aisle, and working with partners across municipal bodies,” she said in a statement.
“Serving as Clerk would allow me to continue that work on a broader scale by ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly, services are delivered efficiently, and county government remains transparent and accessible.”
Drucker’s announcement comes just days after Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Republican Rep. Mike Caruso to replace Democratic Clerk Joe Abruzzo, whom Palm Beach Commissioners tapped in June to serve as County Administrator.
It also comes about a year and a half after Drucker, a Democrat, won re-election to the City Council with 77% of the vote. She first joined the Council by appointment in 2020 and retained her seat in the next year’s election.
A first-generation American born to Cuban immigrants, Drucker is a member of the Executive Board of the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency and holds roles on the Florida League of Cities and National League of Cities.
After a corporate career spanning 13 years in human resources and strategic management at ADP TotalSource, she shifted to politics and community service.
She launched a bid in May to succeed term-limited Senate Democratic Leader Lori Berman in Senate District 26. As of June 30, she had more than $169,500 in her campaign account and political committee.
Drucker praised Abruzzo for setting “a strong example of what good government looks like.”
“I hope to continue his legacy of strong fiscal management,” she said. “That includes preserving Palm Beach County’s role as the largest investor of Israel Bonds in the world, which reflects both our shared values and our commitment to smart, long-term investments.”
Drucker’s departure from the SD 26 race, for now, clears a path for former Democratic Rep. David Silvers, who filed to run in July. Former Republican Rep. Rick Roth is also running.
The Clerk’s job is up for grabs in next year’s election. The race is partisan.
